The Common Sizes of Wood Pallets

Wood pallets are a commonly used shipping supply for a variety of products and industries, from product and agricultural goods to shipping mail across a large distance.  But not all wood pallets are perfect squares or cut exactly the same. This is to customize pallets to accommodate many needs. The standard pallet size is 48 by 40 inches, and is most commonly used for transporting goods to grocery stores and warehouses. Other sizes of wood pallets include:

• 48 by 48
• 40 by 48
• 48 by 42
• 36 by 36

Each pallet weighs around 30 pounds, varying slightly between the sizes, and can withstand varying weights, ranging from 3,500 to over 6,000 pounds. The variety of sizes and construction allows for easy stackable and improved accessibility based on the items that need to be transported. However, the standard size of 48 by 40 inches has helped to standardize transportation, as it provides a weight limit to follow and helps reduce waste.

In addition to the size of wood pallets, they are also constructed to fit certain modifications. Some wood pallets are constructed to be used for specific purposes, such as solid decks that have no gaps between the boards. These pallets are often used for bagged goods. Double face pallets allow for even weight distribution, and some can be used on either side. Winged pallets allow for easier wrapping, which allows extra protection during transportation.
